Creedence Clearwater Revival Picture
Creedence Clearwater Revival, frequently referred to as CCR or simply Creedence, was an American rock band, fronted by John Fogerty. The band started out as The Blue Velvets, formed by John Fogerty, Doug Clifford, and Stu Cook in El Cerrito, California in the late 1950s. They were an instrumental trio, however during the early '60's they began backing Tom Fogerty, John's older brother, for school dances at El Cerrito High School, on fraternity house gigs and in the recording studio. By the mid 1960s, the band signed a contract with Fantasy Records which was a local label based in San Francisco at that time. They were attracted to the label because Fantasy had released a national hit by Vince Guaraldi, "Cast Your Fate To The Wind".

Sweet Hitch-hiker Lyrics

Creedence Clearwater Revival

Was ridin along side the highway, rollin up the country side.
Thinkin Im the devils heatwave, what you burn in your crazy mind?
Saw a slight distraction standin by the road;
She was smilin there, yellow in her hair;
Do you wanna, I was thinkin, would you care.
Chorus:
Sweet hitch-a-hiker,
We could make music at the greasy king.
Sweet hitch-a-hiker,
Wont you ride on my fast machine?
Cruisin on thru the junction, Im flyin bout the speed of sound,
Noticin peculiar function, I aint no roller coaster show me down.
I turned away to see her, woa! she caught my eye,
But I was rollin down, movin too fast;
Do you wanna, she was thinkin can it last.
Chorus
Was busted up along the highway, Im the saddest ridin fool alive.
Wondring if youre goin in my way, wont you give a poor boy a ride?
Here she comes a ridin, lord, shes flyin high.
But she was rollin down, movin too fast;
Do you wanna, she was thinkin can I last.
